Shopee\’s parent company, Sea Group, announced an eye-catching financial report last week, benefiting from the strong growth of its e-commerce business. Revenue growth exceeded market expectations in the first quarter of this year, with revenue increasing 22.8% year-on-year to US$3.73 billion. Among them, Shopee has set the highest order volume, website transaction value (GMV) and revenue in a single quarter in history, showing that its core business is stable.
However, as the competition in the e-commerce market becomes increasingly fierce, Shopee recently announced that starting from June 3, 2024, the number of shipping days on the Philippine website will be reduced from 2 days to 1 day. This means that sellers must make an appointment for shipment and hand over the package the next day after the order is confirmed, otherwise It means that shipment is delayed but Sundays and national holidays are not limited to this.
Shopee Philippines also reminds sellers that under normal circumstances, if the seller fails to make an appointment for shipment on the third day after confirming the order, the order will be canceled. If the seller fails to make an appointment for shipment and hand over the package on the fourth day, the order will also be canceled at the end of the day.
Therefore, sellers must control the scheduled shipment and delivery time.
According to a previous study by INSEAD Business School, 80% of respondents expect same-day delivery service, and as many as 61% of respondents expect to receive goods within 1 to 3 hours after placing an order.
Seeing that consumers are paying more and more attention to delivery speed, major e-commerce platforms are bound to regard logistics timeliness as a bargaining chip to stay away from their opponents.
In order to allow sellers to gain more competitive advantages in the market, Shopee can be said to have worked hard. Starting from March this year, the e-commerce platform will set undelivery working days on Saturdays every week. This means that the delivery working days for Shopee sellers will be It lasts from Monday to Saturday (excluding public holidays) and the calculation logic for automatically canceling orders in all Shopee\’s target markets is reduced to the preparation time plus 2 working days.
However, since there are so many powerful players in the market, just competing in speed is not enough.
Major e-commerce platforms have also repeatedly made surprising moves in terms of shipping issues that consumers are concerned about.
In February this year, Shopee launched a new free returns service in Indonesia to meet consumer shopping needs, allowing consumers to apply for free returns on the grounds that they have changed their minds. The return costs are fully borne by the platform. This measure was also rated as groundbreaking by local media.
In fact, as early as the beginning of 2021, Amazon launched a new return policy, one of which allows buyers of some oversized items that are cheap but have high shipping costs to \”refund only but not return.\”
Although this policy caused a lot of controversy, it did attract many potential consumers to Amazon.
